Sheila E. headlines live concert at ¡Somos Peoria!

Sheila E.

¡Somos Peoria! will rock Old Town Peoria with a live concert featuring Sheila E. The concert will also feature Sunny Ozuna and Tierra, along with activities for the entire family, from 2 to 10:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at 8311 W. Washington St., on the corner of Peoria and 83rd avenues.

Along with the award-winning bands, attendees can enjoy live music, lucha libre, ballet folklorico and other entertainment, a variety of traditional foods and activities such as inflatables and carnival rides. A cigar bar, beer and margaritas will also be available.

Sheila E.’s impeccable inner rhythm is the pulse behind a trailblazing career that still knows no bounds. As a world-class drummer and percussionist whose credits read like chapters in a music history book — Ringo Starr, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Beyoncé, Herbie Hancock, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan and George Duke — Sheila is a fearless multi-instrumentalist, as well as an actress, mentor and philanthropist. She is also the Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter behind the seminal hits “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizarre.”

Sunny Ozuna, the Tejano music pioneer/songwriter/actor, began his music career entering high school talent shows. With his Grammy Award-winning hits, his vocal talent, his charisma and showmanship, he continues to entertain audiences through his band, Sunny & the Sunliners, with tracks such as “I Only Have Eyes for You” and “Should I Take You Home.”

Tierra, the band named “Best R&B Vocal Group” by four leading magazines, including Billboard, was the first Latino band to have four songs on the national chart and two simultaneously in the Top 100. The band’s blend of rock, pop, jazz, R&B and salsa resulted in a Latin R&B rhythm, which produced classics such as “Together,” “Gonna Find Her,” “Memories” and “Zoot Suit Boogie.”

Event admission is $5 before 5 p.m. and $10 after 5 p.m. Children ages 12 and younger are admitted free courtesy of Salt River Project. VIP ticket options are available for $35 and $45. Parking is free. Tickets are available at www.peoriaaz.gov/specialevents.

A free kickoff event, Fiesta del Pueblo Viejo, will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 28 at Osuna Park in Old Town Peoria at Peoria and Grand avenues. The evening will feature a custom car show, ballet folklorico, mariachis, children’s area, food and beverages and the local bands Reality, Risqué and Eclecto Fenix performing.
