Glendale Elementary School District residents - please vote
Today, more than ever, it is important we engage in the political process at the federal, state, and local level, including governing board elections. We can continue or begin our engagement by voting in the upcoming election.
Becoming familiar with the candidates and what they support is critical as you prepare to cast your votes in November. Some would argue because the future of our children is at stake, being well-informed as it relates to governing board elections is extremely important and something we at times have not given more time and thought to. I urge you to do so.
I also urge you to support Brenda Bartels and Sara Smith as they seek re-election to the Glendale Elementary School District Governing Board. As a resident of Glendale and someone who has served on the Glendale High School District’s Governing Board I am familiar with their work as Governing Board Members and their advocacy for all children, employees, and community members of the district.  Their commitment and service to the district has been unwavering. Bartels and Smith have demonstrated their unwavering commitment in the following manner:
• They have advocated for the academic achievement of all students.  The district continues to make significant progress in this area.
• Contributed to the development of the vision and goals of the district.
• Have ensured district policies are enforced in a fair and consistent manner.
• Have worked to provide students and employees the resources they need while serving as responsible and conscientious stewards of those resources.
• Support the continuous improvement process and the professional development of all employees. They also strive to increase their knowledge on a continuous basis.
• Consistently make themselves available to all members of the community and refer concerns to the appropriate district personnel.
• Have exhibited confidentiality in appropriate matters and with privileged information.
• Continue to represent the district and board to the public in a manner that promotes both interest and respect.
• Have demonstrated exemplary attendance at all Governing Board meetings, Governing Board workshops and conferences, and other district and school related events.
• They are always well-informed and prepared for Governing Board meetings and other district business related events.
• Bartels and Smith both volunteer at schools in the district.
• They demonstrate their advocacy for students, employees, and community members at the state and federal level when appropriate. Their advocacy, whether at the state or local level, is consistently demonstrated in a professional and respectful manner.
Again, our participation in the political process is opportunity to advocate for our families, communities, and in this case, our schools and everyone associated with them. With the current political climate in our country, it is critical we support and vote for those individuals who advocate for the greater good and continue to demonstrate outstanding character. I will vote for Bartels and Smith in the upcoming election and encourage you to support them.
Ian Hugh -- Cactus District Councilmember
